Dopey’s Mistake

Snow White had made a big meat pie for  supper.

“The seven dwarfs will enjoy this,” she said as she put it into the oven. “I”ll fetch some crunchy apples from the orchard, then we can each eat ne after the pie.”

Snow White decides to ask one of the dwarfs to fetch the apples for her and she chose Dopey because he likes to be helpful when he can and he isn’t often asked to do useful things. Dopey set off to the orchard with a basket, and stopped at he first tree he came to.  He rested his ladder against it and had soon picked eight apples. Back went Dopey to Snow White’s kitchen.  She wasn’t there, so he decided to taste one of the apples.

‘UGH!” he gasped. ”It’s HORRIED!”

Snow White came into the kitchen just then. ”Oh,Dopey,”she said. ”Those big green apples are cooking apples-not eating apples.  You should have picked the little red one.”

Poor Dopey!

“Now all the other dwarfs will laugh at me,”he sighed.

“They often say I do everything wrong and now I’ve picked the wrong apples! Oh dear!”

But Snow White told him not to worry and said that the other dwarfs would never know that Dopey had picked the wrong apples.

“We’ll cook these first, before we eat them,”she said. 

“I’ll bake them-that’s one of the nicest things to do with cooking apples.”

Dopey watched as Snow White washed the apples, and using a special tool,took out the cores.  She put the apples into a dish with butter and brown sugar,and out the dish into the oven with the pie.

At lunch time, when the meat pie had been eaten, Snow White took the baked apples from the oven, and gave one to herself and one to each dwarf.  Inside the skins the fruit was fluffy,white and soft, and the butter and sugar had made a lovely,syrupy sauce to sweeten the apples. Snow White had made custard and cream o go with them.

“This is the nicest pudding we’ve ever had!” said Hppy,between mouthfuls. “You have cooked the apples beautifully, Snow White.”

“And Dopey picked them for me beautifully, didn’t you, Dopey!” smiled Snow White.

Dopey looked pleased and proud.  He took another mouthful of apple, and gave Snow White a secret wink!.
