Princess Aurora had been asleep for a hundred years. She had been put o sleep by a trick played by the wicked fairy Maleficent. Handsome Prince Philip had finally awakened her with a kiss. Now Princess Aurora had married him, and hey were very happy except for one thing-Princess Aurora didn’t want to sleep any more!
“No one would-not after a hudred years!” said Princess Aurora. “I’ve had enough sleep to last me for ages!”
Prince Philip, however, did need his sleep, and he couldn’t sleep with Princess Aurora pacing around the bedroom. She tried going out for walks but it was cold out at night. After two month of reading two books a night she grew tired of that too.
When autumn came,Prince Philip had an idea. He sent his two servants to fetch all the acorns they could find. At last one of the palace rooms was filled with acorns.
“Now,dear,”said Prince Philip to Princess Aurora,”how about spending some of your sleepless nights polishing those acorns, making holes in them and threading them on string to make necklaces for us to sell to the ladies of our kingdom-then we should have enough money to pay some gardeners to clear our garden of hedges and weeds.”
Princess Aurora thought this was good idea. The garden hadn’t been attended to for a hundred years and it would take a great many gardeners to turn it back into a garden. Princess Aurora set to work that night. The ladies of her kingdom liked the acorn necklaces and Princess Aurora sold so many that she and Princess Aurora spent the autumn nights making acorn necklaces and the gardeners spent the autumn days working in the garden. By the time the spring came it looked very nice, and Princess Aurora and Prince Philip spent each day in the garden. All that fresh air cured Princess Aurora of her sleeplessness, and now she sleeps so well at night that once again they call her the Sleeping Beauty
